Kim was born in Dundee, Scotland. She studied  Voice and Piano at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama  and acting at Glasgow University. She now studies Voice with Cathy Pope in Britain and David Jones, both in New York and Britain. Kim is an Associate Teacher of David Jone's International Voice Studio.
